A photo of a Kashmiri youth with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spreading quickly on social media. The PM shared it on his own Twitter account. This happened during Modi’s first visit to Kashmir after the removal of Article 370. In Srinagar, he interacted with young entrepreneurs, including Najim. Among them were a young woman engaged in the bakery business and a youth in the honey bee business. Najim expressed his wish for a selfie with the PM during their conversation. Modi responded warmly, saying he would instruct his team to bring Najim for the selfie. True to his word, Modi took a picture with Najim after the event, keeping his promise.

Najim Nazir, who lives in Pulwama and works as a beekeeper, talked with the Prime Minister about his experience as a business owner.
Najir mentioned that he started his beekeeping business in 2018 when he was in the tenth class.
He said,” I started my journey with two boxes bees keep on my rooftop. After returning from school, I would go to my rooftop and take care of the bees. After completing the tenth class, I started thinking about how to move in the business model.”
Najim mentioned that he took a loan of ₹5 lakhs under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP). With this, he purchased 25 bee boxes at a 50% subsidy.
Najim said, “Firstly, I extracted 75 kilograms of honey. I sold this honey in my village and earned ₹60,000, which was my first income. My family was happy. I felt very inspired.”
In 2020, Najim started his website, and now he sells more than 1000 kilograms of honey every year.
“In 2023, I had 2000 bee boxes, and I sold more than 5000 kilograms of honey,” Najim said, adding that now more than 100 people work with him.
Prime Minister Modi praised Najim, saying, “We’ve heard about the White Revolution and the Green Revolution. But today, because of young people like Najim, we are witnessing a Sweet Revolution in our Kashmir.”
Later, speaking to the news agency ANI, Najim said, “Prime Minister Modi asked me about my journey and also gave me some suggestions. In the end, I requested Prime Minister Modi to take a selfie with me, and he graciously fulfilled my request. He was truly kind and charming.”
He said, “Today, the government is supporting us. Many schemes are available online, and you don’t even need anyone’s help to access them.”
This was Prime Minister Modi’s first trip to Kashmir since the special status granted to the erstwhile state was revoked by the Centre on August 5, 2019, and it was divided into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
During the program in Srinagar, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated development projects worth nearly 5,000 crore rupees aimed at boosting agriculture and the economy in the union territory.
